FD/SD activities

INDEX

In recent years, society's expectations of university education have grown even more in the midst of rapid changes in the environment surrounding universities. Under such circumstances, FD (Faculty Development)- an organizational effort for teachers to improve and improve class contents and methods - has become indispensable.

In addition, in order for the university to fully fulfill its mission President it is necessary to further improve its Administrative Staff. We will provide opportunities for SD (staff development) as training to acquire the knowledge and skills necessary for the operation of, etc., and to improve abilities and qualities.

In order to promote FD/SD activities on a campus-wide basis, our President has set up a university-wide FD/SD committee chaired by the president, and conducts various initiatives throughout the year. In addition, each faculty and research school has its own activity policy and conducts unique activities. In addition, in order to share information on these FD/SD activities and deepen their activities, Asia University "FD/SD Letter" is published twice a year.

University-wide FD/SD activity policy for 2020

The university-wide FD/SD activity policy for 2024 is based on our university's medium- to long-term plan (Third Medium-Term Action Plan of the New Asia Future Map - From Asia to Global) (established on March 24, 2022), and aims to "create a fun university and interesting classes." We will continue to operate the learning outcomes understanding and visualization system and promote analysis of surveys of graduating students. In addition, we will share examples of on-demand classes, which students have strongly requested to be expanded, and will focus on enhancing not only FD activities but also SD activities.

1. Operation of learning outcome understanding/visualization system

We will continue to operate the "Learning Results Understanding and Visualization System" introduced in 2021, and will analyze and verify the consistency of curriculum maps (diploma policies and goals for each class) in each department. In addition, at that time, we will conduct interviews with our students regarding the gap between their own experiences and data, and we will also include analysis from the student's perspective.

2. Analysis of graduation year student questionnaire and extraction of issues

Each department will conduct a self-analysis of the response status of the "Graduate Year Student Survey" with an eye toward the degree of achievement of the diploma policy, and the IR Committee will examine the survey results from a specific perspective for all faculties and departments. We will identify issues based on the comparatively analyzed data and share this with each department.

3. Sharing examples of on-demand classes

With regard to on-demand classes, which have received many requests from students for expansion, in order to provide material for each faculty/department to consider increasing the number of classes, we will hold training sessions with Lecturer who are currently in charge, and provide know-how. and share success stories.

4. Expanding the implementation system for FD/SD activities

Under the University-wide FD/SD Committee, we will systematize the training, lectures, and briefing sessions for faculty and staff held within the university, and promote the expansion of the system for FD/SD activities.

Student questionnaire for class improvement

Since 2007, we have been conducting a University-wide "Student Questionnaire Survey for Class Improvement" once each in the spring and fall semesters. The purpose of this is to know the degree of understanding and opinions of the students about the class, and to use it to create better classes.
