Asia University Declaration on Smoking Cessation

The health damage caused by smoking, especially the health damage of non-smokers due to passive smoking, has become a major social problem. On July 1, 2019, the "Health Promotion Act" was partially revised (enforced), and passive smoking prevention has progressed.

In line with these developments, from July 2019, smoking has been prohibited on university premises in principle, except for designated outdoor smoking areas, in order to prevent passive smoking. Regarding smoking regulations and the prevention of passive smoking, it is progressing not only in Japan but also in countries around the world as an international trend.

Asia University aims to create a campus free of second-hand smoke, prevent future students from developing the habit of smoking during their university life, and encourage current smokers to "quit smoking" and leave the nest. To this end, we are systematically promoting the following activities:

(1) Removal of smoking areas on campus
(2) Implementation of smoking cessation awareness and support activities on campus
(3) Smoking Area Strengthen patrols to prevent smoking outside
(4) Promoting smoking cessation for faculty and staff

Our campus is a place where many people gather, not only students and faculty, but also alumni, local residents, and guests from overseas. We take this responsibility as an open university very seriously, and hereby pledge to strongly promote smoking cessation as a university.

We kindly ask for your understanding and cooperation.
