International International Student recruitment for Japanese companies

INDEX

When starting job hunting, it is important to know what Japanese companies are looking for in International Student.
Of course, what each company wants is different.
Therefore, thorough company research is required.

Why Japanese Companies Hire International Student

When we asked companies with a track record of hiring International Student why they hire international students, the most common response was "to secure talented human resources regardless of nationality." The next most frequently cited reasons for responding to internationalization were ``to cope with the internationalization of business'' and ``because the use of a foreign language is required for work.'' Not only companies that are expanding their business overseas, but also companies that are planning to expand overseas in the future, often try to secure human resources who are familiar with the local situation and at the same time understand Japanese Affairs.

Future roles expected of International Student

Many companies consider hiring conditions the same as for Japanese employees. This means that employees have the same opportunities for salary increases and promotions as other employees, and at the same time language and cultural handicaps are not taken into consideration. However, there are companies that have a reason for hiring foreigners and companies that have a high degree of overseas expansion. Such companies want to hire human resources who can become experts in handling international transactions. In the future, you may be expected to work as a management executive at a local subsidiary overseas.

Japanese proficiency required for International Student

An overwhelming majority of companies require Japanese language skills at a level that allows them to create documents such as reports and business letters. Next, they are expected to have "a level of ability to conduct business interactions." In other words, most companies are looking for Japanese language skills that go beyond everyday conversation. Try to come into contact with environments that require Japanese conversation on a daily basis. Reading and writing skills are also required.
Make an effort to improve your reading and writing skills by taking notes in class, writing reports, and preparing materials for seminar presentations. It is also a good idea to ask your teacher or other people around you to warn you if your Japanese is incorrect.

Image of International Student

When hiring International Student, companies seem to have a positive image of their work motivation, ability, and broad international perspective. In particular, their enthusiasm for work is highly rated, and it seems that there is a strong image that they approach their work by making the most of the international sensibilities and abilities they have learned as International Student. On the other hand, some companies have negative impressions regarding cooperativeness, Japanese language ability, and retention rates. Being assertive can sometimes be a good thing, but being too assertive means you won't be able to cooperate. However, it is possible to maintain cooperation even if you clearly state your opinion. It is important to remember that when you assert your rights, you also have obligations, and it is important to maintain balanced interpersonal relationships and not disrupt the harmony within the company.

Also, even if you take the trouble to train someone, it is a big loss for the company if they quit soon after. Approach your job search with the mindset that you will be working for a long time.
