Asia University anti-smoking promotion activities

Asia University Smoking Cessation Promotion Plan

Asia University aims to create a clean and healthy campus free of passive smoking, and to prevent promising students from developing smoking habits during their university life, and to enable current smokers to "quit smoking" and enter society, the university has formulated the "Asia University Smoking Cessation Promotion Plan" and will implement smoking cessation promotion activities.

History of formulation

The health damage caused by smoking, especially to non-smokers due to passive smoking, has become a major social issue, and on July 1, 2019, the Health Promotion Act was partially revised to require measures to be taken against passive smoking. Furthermore, the Tokyo Metropolitan Government's Passive Smoking Prevention Ordinance now prohibits smoking indoors and outdoors in principle in Type 1 facilities such as schools, hospitals, and government agencies, and now only allows smoking in designated outdoor smoking areas that meet the requirements of the ordinance.

In line with this trend, in July 2019, Asia University 's campus established a "designated outdoor smoking area" on the north side of the former Building No. 2 to prevent passive smoking, and has implemented a complete smoking ban indoors and outdoors as a general rule. Furthermore, schools and other institutions are obligated by metropolitan ordinance to make efforts not to establish designated outdoor smoking areas.

Future plans

Going forward, we will proceed with the promotion plan according to the schedule below, with the aim of achieving a complete smoking ban on campus by 2029.
