[Results Announcement] 3rd Asia University High School Students Asia Photo Contest
PAGE SECTIONS

From July 10th to September 24th, Asia University will hold its third photo shoot under the theme of ``I Discovered Asia'' as a cultural project for high school students to discover the culture and customs of the Asian region up close. A contest was held. We received 77 applications from individuals and Photography Club. We would like to express our deepest gratitude to everyone who applied and introduced this project.
In this photo contest, we looked at high school students' images of "Asia," a time when not only real-life exchanges through overseas travel, but also cultural exchanges that transcend national and linguistic boundaries have become popular due to the development of media content.

===《General review》===
The photo contest, which is in its third year this year, received a large number of entries. thank you very much. Moreover, there were so many masterpieces that it was difficult to judge them. Restrictions on overseas travel have been lifted, and the number of overseas photos has increased, giving me a sense of post-coronavirus. On the other hand, works that find commonalities within Japan that lie within Asia's undercurrents also caught my eye. We are once again reminded that the SDGs era is an era in which we must respect each other's differences and find new commonalities. I look forward to seeing you next time.

“Downtown Hong Kong (Wan Chai)” / Ishido, Mizuki (Nara Private Nara Gakuen High School) [Group photo]

I took this photo when I went to Hong Kong in the summer. I tried to cut out parts of downtown Hong Kong, such as taxi drivers parking their cars at a mahjong parlor, a back alley, and a corner of an apartment building.
Commentary
By photographing a taxi, one of Hong Kong's icons, from above, the contrast between stopped cars, moving cars, and neon-lit buildings is effective. The scenes of back alleys and high-rise apartment buildings that are familiar to Hong Kong movies are well captured, and the film clearly conveys the downtown feel of Hong Kong (=Asia).

“Gathering under the tree” / Yasuhara, Rion (Shizuoka Prefectural Shizuoka High School) [Single photo]

Commentary
The slightly shy smiles on the children's faces reveal the relationship between the photographer and the children. I think this is a type of photo that can be taken by staying there and taking the time. Honestly, not a single child was looking at me, so I think the relationship would have been better conveyed if there was at least one child looking at the camera.

“Thinking”/Saito, Aren (Fukui Prefectural Nyu High School) [Single photo]

Commentary
Although there is no sound in the photographs, some of the photographs evoke the image of lively sounds or calm sounds.
This photo gives a sense of stillness.
And who is it that is ``thinking'' in a quiet space?
Various people can be considered, such as the Buddha, Buddhist sculptor, believer, photographer, etc.
In any case, this is a picture that makes you think that he is quietly thinking about it.

“Festivalist” / Inui, Soma (Aichi Prefectural Komaki High School) [Group photo]

Commentary
You can feel the excitement of the festival. The composition looking up from a low angle gives a sense of majesty and momentum, and the monochrome finish gives a sense of heat. Although her face is not shown, her expression can be seen from her back. I think it works well as a group photo.
