From July 8th to September 23rd, Asia University held its fourth photography contest for high school students, themed "The Asia I Discovered," as a cultural event to help them discover the cultures and customs of the Asian region up close. We received 110 submissions from individuals and Photography Club. We would like to express our sincere gratitude to all those who submitted submissions and those who introduced the event to the public.

This photo contest looked at what high school students imagine about "Asia" in today's world, where cultural exchange beyond countries and languages has become more prevalent not only through real-life exchanges through overseas travel but also through the development of media content.

===Overall Review===
This is the fourth time we have held this photo contest. We received many works this time as well. Thank you very much. They were all masterpieces. I was really impressed by everyone's diverse curiosity about Asia and their drive to capture it in photos. Taking Asia, which is constantly changing, as a subject, may be a challenge to the unknown. That's what I thought. That passion is overflowing from the photos (laughs). I'm looking forward to the next one.

Light records nature and history over thousands of years
No matter the era, we will always live in love.

The strong gaze of the girl in the first photo captivates the viewer. The child in the second photo, earnestly grasping a rock, is very heartwarming. And just as you're expecting the third photo to be a child, you're met with the unexpected image of purple flowers and a stone statue. The work made me wonder if the title "Notes on History" means that paying attention to small things such as small animals, children, rocks, and flowers is important in understanding and recording history.

Comment
The focus of the series of photographs entitled "Poverty and Economic Growth" is on the side of poverty and labor. In one black-and-white photo reminiscent of rush-hour traffic, a laborer sits on the back of a truck waiting for a traffic light under the crossed electric wires commonly seen in Asia, looking at a building under construction in the distance. The other, which shows a static slum and a high-rise building district on the other side of a bridge, combines with the composition of the evening light and the slightly tilted river to condense the light and shadow of the Asian economy, such as economic growth and its instability, and the people left behind by that growth.
The river symbolizes the flow of time from the past to the future, but also represents a decision that cannot be reversed once crossed. Asia's growth will never stop, and this scene may become a thing of the past in 20 years.

It's just an ordinary scene from a Southeast Asian alleyway. However, I loved how it captured the everyday life of the people and the city there so beautifully and as it was, so I highly recommend it.

"Forever" / Rino Nakaji (Saitama, Private Saitama Sakae High School) [Single photo]

Comment
The title "Forever" has a double meaning, as it seems to refer to the scenery of a good old candy store, but also to the relationships between the children. The photograph also conveys that the photographer was moved by the children's happy expressions and took the picture. It is a valuable photo both as a record of the existence of such a candy store in Japan, and as a memory of the children gathering there. Next time, please try calling out to the children and taking a photo. I think the photo will have more depth if you can sense Nakaji's presence in it.
