Spirit of Self-help and Cooperation Seminar
The spirit of self-help and cooperation seminar was held on November 24, organized by the Student’s Association. This is an annual event to reconsider the university’s founding principles, the spirit of Self-help and Cooperation, and it is usually held on November 26, the anniversary of the university’s founder, Kozo Ota’s death. At the seminar, President Michiharu Kurita gave instructions to students by introducing an anecdote about Professor Ota when he received a Christian baptism. The president also explained in detail about Professor Ota’s diary dated November 6, 1946, which is considered to be the beginning of “Self-help”, which is carried in the founding principles--the spirit of Self-help and Cooperation. After that, Professor Ota’s brief personal history was introduced, and flowers were offered at Professor Ota’s statue. The seminar ended with a one minute silent tribute and the singing of the first students’ song in unison.
