Cleanup Activities on Mount Fuji Experiential Learning of Global Environment Theory

On May 27, a total of 60 people participated in cleanup activities in the Obuchi area in Fuji city, Shizuoka Prefecture under the guidance of the Specified Nonprofit Corporation, Fujisan Club. The participants involved students in the faculty of International Relations who were taking ‘Experiential Learning of Global Environment Theory’ as an elective subject, as well as volunteer students and related staff. While there, the students learnt about problems regarding waste and non-native species. After receiving safety instructions to be followed during the cleanup and when sorting waste, the students began their work. Everyone seemed to realize the severity of the problems, saying “We underestimated the reality of the dumping of waste. We never realized just how much waste is being dumped among the dense trees of this mountain.”
