Lecture before studying abroad

In order to ensure the success of studying abroad, which will be a major turning point,
Establish a thorough preparation system with a fulfilling pre-training session.

In order for students to succeed in studying abroad, which can be said to be a major turning point in their lives, we hold workshops from the semester before departure and send students off in a fully prepared state. Studying abroad starts from the preparation stage before going abroad, not after going abroad.

Pre-workout

For students participating in the study abroad program, we hold pre-study sessions on multiple themes.
Participating students are required to attend all workshops prior to studying abroad, and prepare in various ways through general explanations, group work, case studies, etc. Students who are going abroad for the first time can participate in study abroad with peace of mind.
Using Asia University 's own handbook, the themes will include local learning, living, cross-cultural understanding, employment/career (including business etiquette)*, and setting goals for studying abroad. The workshop has five main goals:

1. Clarify your goals for studying abroad and think about what you need to do to achieve them.

Studying abroad is a step towards achieving big goals in the future. It is an opportunity to clarify your goals and think about what you need to do to achieve them, so that your study abroad experience is not just "fun" but a rewarding one.

2. Prepare yourself mentally for the new environment.

When you study abroad, you often experience culture shock because you stay in an environment completely different from Japan for a certain period of time. By knowing in advance the process of adapting to a different culture, you will learn how to deal with it. In addition, in order to lead a safe and secure International Student, students will also learn concretely about "crisis management" while doing group work.

3. Make more acquaintances and friends.

There is no teaching staff to accompany you when you study abroad. Especially overseas, it's reassuring to have friends you can trust. With the founding spirit of "the spirit of Self-help and Cooperation" as our motto, we will build a network and teamwork with friends who can trust and help each other.

4. Learn the history and philosophy of study abroad programs.

A study abroad program at Asia University that has been built up by seniors for many years. Learn more about the program you participate in and take pride in being part of history.

5. Depart and return home safely and prepare for a successful study abroad.

We will proceed with procedures such as obtaining a passport, applying for a visa, preparing documents to be submitted to the host university, shipping luggage, and purchasing overseas travel accident insurance.

Learning and life support

During the study abroad period, local staff will be able to provide reports on the student's academic and living situation. For students experiencing mental anxiety, we also have a system in place where students can receive online counseling from our university counselors.
Furthermore, questions and inquiries can be made via email, with faculty and staff providing advice as needed, and consultations regarding course selection after returning to Japan are also available.

Local staff and local advisors

AUAP (Asia University America Program) (AUAP) has a dedicated office at each of the three Washington universities, where full-time program staff are always present to support students in their studies and daily life. We have a system in place that allows us to respond quickly in the event of an emergency or trouble, including bilingual staff. In addition, local students will support you as advisors, and you can easily consult with your local roommate if you have any problems in your daily life.

In the Asian Studies Program (AUASP), Global Program (AUGP) and Exchange Program (AUEP), students are expected to develop the ability to solve problems independently in the language of the host country in order International Student maximize the results of their study abroad experience. In case of emergency or other necessary circumstances, staff with extensive experience in accepting international International Student from the host universities and related institutions will provide support.

AUAP also holds a "Job Fair" that includes help in creating English resumes and mock interviews in English.

Risk management

During the pre-training, case studies are conducted on potential crises that may occur at the study abroad destination, and the program rules that have been uniquely established for crisis prevention are made known to participants, with a focus on risk avoidance from the preparation stage onwards.
Furthermore, Asia University requires all students travelling abroad as part of university-wide study abroad programs such as AUAP, AUASP, AUGP, AUCP and AUEP to purchase overseas travel insurance and to join the International Student Risk Management Service (OSSMA), with which Asia University has a contract.
OSSMA is a service that provides telephone support for any trouble or concerns you may have while International Student abroad, and allows you to check the safety of your friends and family regularly or in case of an emergency using a system called "OSSMA LOCATOR."

Support after studying abroad

A support system that turns the experience of studying abroad into a "strength" and moves on to the next step without stopping.
After returning home from studying abroad, there are cases where students are satisfied with what they have studied abroad and stop without moving on to the next step. In order to prevent such cases, Asia University is also focusing on support after returning to Japan.

Orientation after returning home

Orientation after returning home
