Improve your English skills by taking extracurricular Course
In the second language class, Hindi,
The joy of language learning
In the second language class, Hindi,
The joy of language learning

Asia University is known for its extensive study abroad programs, but I was able to improve my language skills sufficiently through on-campus classes alone. I took extracurricular English Course in my first year and achieved a TOEIC® score of 835 at the end of the year. In my second year, I further improved my language skills by taking the specialized subject "Legal Issues in Our Daily Life." At the time, I happened to be the only student taking the course, so I received one-on-one instruction. It was difficult to read through textbooks full of legal English, but it made up for it by greatly improving my English reading comprehension. I believe I will be able to use this knowledge at work.
The other is Hindi, which I chose as my second foreign language. There are 14 second foreign languages that can be studied at Asia University, and I was the only one who chose Hindi at the time, so it was a very luxurious learning environment. Hindi has similar grammar to Japanese, but the expressions are interesting. For example, "it hurts, it makes me happy" is expressed as "pain comes, joy comes" in Hindi. I think the best part of learning a foreign language is noticing the values and feelings of the people who use it, and the cultural differences that lie behind them. I would like to learn other foreign languages in the future.

Through peer supporters and Student’s Association
Think about your role
My horizons have broadened
Think about your role
My horizons have broadened

After enrolling at the university, I was on the bus heading to the location of the "Encounter Plaza" training for new students when I met a female student who was deaf and sat next to me. I then became friends with her and she taught me basic sign language and asked me if I wanted to become a peer supporter.
Asia University has established a "peer supporter system" in which other students provide support to students with disabilities with classes and moving around campus, and currently has approximately 80 students registered.
When I visited the "Special Needs Student Support Office" which serves as the base of our activities, I felt uncomfortable because the students were speaking in sign language and I couldn't understand what they were saying. A student noticed and translated for me, but it was then that I really felt what it was like to be a linguistic minority. I wanted to be of some help to my friends who are exposed to such information barriers on a daily basis.
I also realized something while working as a peer supporter. In the past, I had the image that this kind of support was something that we "did for you." But in reality, it's on an equal footing, and we just remove the barriers while taking classes together. Rather than supporting each other, I felt that it would be better to just take a casual stance, like lending an eraser to a friend who forgot it. Even among supporters, friendships have expanded beyond the boundaries of faculties and grades. In 2019, I participated in a supporters' forum held at another university, and interacting with other university clubs engaged in a wide variety of volunteer activities was also an opportunity to broaden my horizons.
In addition, I joined Student Health Insurance Committee an organization of Student’s Association, and even served as its chairman. This committee mainly works to raise awareness of healthy living among students, such as publicizing the Medical Benefit System, which uses union fees paid along with tuition fees to cover hospital treatment costs for students, and conducting alcohol patch tests. Inspired by my seniors who wanted to work for the health of alumni, I joined the committee and served as Director, Financial Affairs Office for two years. Since I am in a position to grasp the flow of activities and promote cooperation between each executive and all committee members, I have been backing up each department by frequently communicating online even during the COVID-19 pandemic. After becoming chairman, I have tried to lead the whole organization while supporting and supporting the goals of each committee member. I was able to imagine how I would be able to work as a team if I joined a company, and this has given me confidence. As a result, I think it has also become an appealing point in job hunting.

Early job hunting preparation
From past challenges and learnings
Discovering the Future

Discovering the Future

Although I was busy with my studies and extracurricular activities, I started preparing for job hunting in my first year after meeting Career Center staff member at a qualification Course information event held in the campus lobby right after I enrolled. I was told about the job hunting preparations that should be made from the early years, and began self-analysis through the continuous job hunting competency assessment (Sprout) and the Vocational Interest Test (VRT). I also participated in Guidance and events for early years students organized by Career Center, where I learned how to view company websites and understand corporate philosophies.
At the recommendation of staff, I actively participated in an internship for first and second year students called ICS (Internship & Creation Study) and one-day internships organized by companies. However, in my third year, when my specialized studies were deepening, I put my job hunting on hold and devoted myself to my studies and extracurricular activities, such as joining the new athletic Hiking Club.
As I was doing this, I began to see my vision for the future. Originally, I had planned to do clerical work behind the scenes, rather than talking to people, but as I gained various experiences both inside and outside the university, I began to think, "I want to do a job that allows me to go to many different places and meet new people." And ideally, I imagined myself working in the medical industry, which I had always admired.

Learning continues even after job hunting
Also taking courses from other faculties
I was able to broaden my knowledge

I was able to broaden my knowledge

I resumed my job search on March 1st, when company information sessions began in earnest, and participated in online information sessions with three companies per day. I also successfully passed the application form that I had the university staff correct, and with my first choice being a company that handles clinical testing, I started interviewing in April and was able to secure a job offer after a short battle that ended at the end of the month.
In the future, I would like to become a person who can support the health of people in Japan and other Asian countries. I believe that I can utilize everything I have learned in various fields, including law, languages, politics, and business administration, in my work.
After I finished my job search and had collected all Credit necessary to graduate other than my seminars, I took several classes in other departments.
One of these is the Faculty of Faculty of Business Administration 's course "Business Environment in Asia." I took the course because I wanted to be involved in overseas business at work. In the class, we take up various case studies, such as the challenges and solutions that major companies face when they expand overseas, and students take the initiative in moderating, presenting, and discussing the topic. As a student of Faculty of Law, I didn't know any of the business knowledge or terminology used in the class, but the students from the Faculty of Faculty of Business Administration taught me and I enjoyed learning through group work.
